About the Shackspack
We choose Adventure
The decisions we make as a family are intentionally filtered through that ideal.
Life is better with some buddies by our side, so we invite you to journey with us as we record what we hope will be a life well-lived.
Come learn through our mistakes, laugh at our jokes, and cry at our losses.
There’s always room at our lodge for you.
Beginnings.
First sight.
19 years ago, a curly headed boy looked across a crowded cafeteria, made eye contact with silly 18 year old girl and told his friends that he was going to marry her. And thus, Shackpack began.
Our life together has never looked the way we could have imagined it so many years ago. Full of twists and turns, states and homes, churches and children. As if someone bigger than us decided to keep it interesting. We decided to go with the flow.
One of our most difficult adventures was moving from the quiet northwoods of Wisconsin to the bustling city life of Salt Lake City 8 years ago. Although we found ourselves nearly alone with only a few faithful new friends and no job within the first 8 months of moving here, Utah etched itself so deeply in our hearts, that we decided to stay, even when we had a chance to leave.
We love this city, these mountains, the people, the culture, the uninhibited horizons that dominate every landscape, as well as the hive mentality that thrives here. But this Wisconsin born girl has missed the lush farms of the Midwest and the sparkling waters of the north since she moved away.
Enter Shackelodge. Built next to an artisan well where water bubbles straight from the center of the earth. Where the barn waits for horses, goats, or other livestock to fill its stalls. Where the orchard is overrun with birds filling their bellies with cherries, apricots, peaches, and apples that are too numerous to pick. Welcome to our new adventure.
Come and enjoy this journey with us!
About Lindsay
I do all the things.
I’m a true Bohemian at heart. I pile on layers in every area of my life. Systems, projects, activities, things, people, books, places, foods. I don’t claim to be a master of much, but my interests and personal studies are wide and varied, so not to brag, but I kind of know how to do everything.
Wanna talk nutrition?-I’m in…and passionate about it.
Need some info on goats?-Yah baby, I’m getting one next week and have done the research.
Advice on parenting?-Absolutely…I learn to be an expert on the ages and stages as soon as my kids grow out of them. Too bad I can’t seem to get ahead of them. Maybe you have some teenage advice for me!
Jesus?-Yup, he’s my inspiration.
Got questions for your kid’s teacher?-Well, I may not be able to answer them all, but I do have a degree in it and it is my main source of income.
Home remodeling or design advice?-Takes up a lot of my free time.
BFF’s?-Those are my favorites!
I’m sure I have a lot in common with you. Maybe we can learn from each other.
